Regulatory Process
- Overview of CEQA and the (EIR) process
The California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requires public agencies to evaluate and disclose the potential environmental impacts of proposed projects. As part of the LRDP process, UC Irvine is preparing a comprehensive Environmental Impact Report (EIR) that examines how the plan may affect areas such as air quality, traffic, noise, water resources, and biological habitats. The EIR will also identify mitigation measures to reduce or avoid significant impacts wherever possible. - How the LRDP integrates environmental stewardship
Sustainability is central to UC Irvine’s planning efforts. The LRDP incorporates long-term strategies for reducing carbon emissions, conserving water and energy, preserving open space, and promoting climate resilience. These priorities are embedded into campus planning principles and evaluated throughout the environmental review process. - Transparency in reporting and responding to community concerns
UC Irvine is committed to an open and responsive process. All environmental documentation—including the draft and final EIR—will be publicly available for review. Opportunities for comment will be provided during formal public review periods, and feedback will be addressed in accordance with CEQA requirements. Community concerns will play a key role in shaping how the plan evolves and how potential impacts are mitigated.
